Heel Pain
Plantar fasciitis (or heel pain) is caused by inflammation on the bottom of the foot near the heel and arch. It is sometimes called “heel spur syndrome”, but a heel spur does not have to be present to have heel pain. In fact, studies have shown that most heel spurs themselves are not painful. It is the soft tissue of the heel, or the plantar fascia, that causes heel pain.
Most cases of plantar fasciitis resolve without the need for surgery, although the condition is sometimes slow to resolve. Stretching exercises, anti inflammatory medicine, orthotics, appropriate shoes, athletic taping, and physical therapy can help resolve plantar fasciitis.
